H20 CALC is an incredible tool for earth/environmental science classes as well as, potentially, biology and chemistry classes. Unfortunately, the assignment forced us to choose among these four groups, even though our cohort does not represent four different content areas. As a former biology major, I took on the "science" tool or app and found H20 CALC a tool I was excited to share with my science teaching colleagues.
H20 CALC is an application that allows individuals to predict the amount of water that they use on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. This can be calculated through individual actions, such as length of showers and leaks in water devices in the home. It can also be calculated through common matrix inputs associated with families.
The app allows students (and individuals otherwise) to reflect on their impact on the worldwide water resources.
Benefits of Tool or App
Allows students to quickly determine how much water they use in their daily bathing routines.
Allows students to quickly determine the effect of even a small water leak. Allows students to quickly determine their families' impact on the ecology of their world through water usage.
Allows students to determine common uses of water and gives them an outlet to creatively determine ways to conserve.
Constraints of Tool or App
Tool does not intuitively offer a conservation tool.
Tool does not give advice for conserving water. Tool does not provide averages.
Tool does not take into account other uses of water such as cooking, cleaning cars, etc.
How To Use Tool or App
1. Download the tool toa mobile device. 2. To quickly assess how much water one uses for common water usages, simply input the data (i.e., how long one tends to shower, how many "drops" per minute a leak occurs). 3. To quickly assess how much water families use, simply input the data required.

Classroom Uses for Tool or App
Student Uses Students will use the application to determine how much water they use individually. Students will use the application to determine how much water their families use. Students will determine ways to conserve individually. Students will determine ways to conserve as a family.
Teacher Uses
Teacher will use tool to engage individual learning, investigation and reflection based on students' individual reflection on their own water usage.
Teacher will use tool to engage cooperative learning through the group assignment of joining to form family groups to determine how much water typical families go through--see Whole House assignment.
Teacher will use tool to engage whole-class discussion of ways students and families can conserve.
